Huron County Sheriff’s Office – Road Patrol
Road Patrol
The Huron County Sheriff’s Office has a Road Patrol Division which operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. These officers are responsible for patrolling the entire county (500 sq miles). Road Patrol deputies’ duties include Responding to calls for service by the public, drug interdiction, service of summons, subpoenas, warrants, civil protection orders, crash investigations and many other call types.
Detective Bureau
The Detective Bureau consists of detectives assigned to primarily investigate major crime cases, homicides, rapes, burglaries, and conduct the majority of drug interdiction within the Huron County Sheriff’s Office. Throughout 2013, these detectives took cases to grand jury on charges of trafficking in heroin, cocaine, prescription pills, burglaries, thefts of motor vehicles, tampering with evidence, attempted murder, extortion, abduction, felonious assault, robbery and many other cases for a total of 183 counts presented to grand jury.
Special Deputies
The Huron County Sheriff’s Office also has volunteer deputies who dedicate time each month to support many roles of the Sheriff’s Office. These special deputies are sworn in and help support the road patrol and detective bureau divisions. Special deputies will volunteer their time to ride along with a road patrol unit as backup, assist the dispatchers, participate in community volunteer events, such as ringing the bell for the Salvation Army, or cook meal at Thanksgiving for needy families.
Dispatch
The communications division is the hub of any law enforcement agency. The dispatchers that work in the communications division have to perform a variety of duties and have a public servant mindset.
Each day the calls for services received into the communications division have a diverse range of need of response action to be taken. The inability to know what kind of call is going to be on the other line requires the dispatcher to be alert and ready at all times. The dispatch center obviously runs 24/7 and 365 days a year.
The Huron County Sheriff’s Office dispatches for our deputies along with 4 other local police departments and 6 local fire departments.
